Ink

Description

Ink smells like what it is named after, which is rarer than it sounds. A black ink accord opens it metallic and cold, with birch adding a tarry, leathery bite underneath. Vetiver forms the heart, earthy and rooty, giving the composition texture rather than sweetness. Tar and jasmine close it — an odd pair on paper, and the reason it works: the flower keeps the smoke from turning purely industrial. Raw, dry and genuinely unusual. Not a crowd-pleaser, and not trying to be.
