Mélodie de l’Altaï opens on saffron, whisky and incense — boozy, spiced and smoky in the first breath, with no attempt at freshness. Leather, Arabian jasmine, cedarwood and styrax make the heart dense, the jasmine the only soft thing in it. Patchouli, vetiver, benzoin and tonka bean close it resinous and warm. The darkest fragrance in the house, made for cold nights, and it projects generously — one spray is enough.
