Description
Philippine Courtière opens Dark Opulence on an energising rush of ginger and saffron, boozy with rum underneath and already carrying a smoky, leathery edge. Tobacco and velvety osmanthus fill the heart, black tea keeping it dry rather than sweet, and the drydown is earthy and resinous: leather with guaiac wood and agarwood. An extrait, so it stays — and it leaves a genuinely significant impression rather than a pleasant one.
